Another thought...

I just had one more thought to post on today...
In the last 9 months we have set some long time records. Last May we recorded the highest temp in May. Last December we recorded the most snow in December (25 inches) and were very near the longest coldest stretch for December. This month (January) we seem to have recorded some of the strongest winds in a very long time if not ever for Troutdale. It was reported in the news that someone recorded gusts over 100 at Rooster Rock and Crown Point. The highest I saw was 116!
So... whats left?

It continues...

The crazy winter continues!
We had a 70-90 foot fir tree fall on the neighbors yard and crush his truck, and the top of another tree fall on his roof and cause some damage. That was what we woke up to a week ago Sunday. The wind continued to gust up to the 50mph range until about last Thursday, then we got another inch of snow Sunday that stuck around for about 36 hours. Its been pretty cold the last few nights getting down to around 28 or so. This morning we may get some more snow as a system is moving in but it should get up to 40 in the afternoon like is has for the last several days.
We have been getting a lot of sunshine, but its pretty pointless with the wind and cold.

Insane wind!

116mph gust reported at Rooster Rock! We lost the top of a tree that almost crushed the new fence. Went up to Corbett to unload a truckload of debre from the tree and the wind was insane! Probably the worst I have seen. Tonight will be kinda scary, I will make sure that a flashlight is near for if the power goes out.

Hi pressure.. east wind..

We have been in a high pressure system all week. If froze the last two nights and the east wind picked up sometime yesterday. It looks to stay this way for several more days. The wind is very cold today and I think highs may only get to around 40.

The norm...

The system we are in now is our normal weather system.
Sunday night it started snowing with the temp around 30-32 and about 2-3 inches accumulated. By 9pm we were above freezing and sometime during the night it began to rain. It has been raining ever since. I think what happened is that we had a low coming in offshore and a big front of rain. The snow came off of the bow of that front, and when the rest of the ship arrived it bumped the temp up and let the rain begin. I am guessing the low swung north of us to block out any cold air because it has been in the 40s since early Mon morning.
In conclusion, it seems that the 2008 Winter blizzard was a fluke.

25 inches of snow!

Well over the Christmas break we had lots of snow and a little ice. The most I measured at our place was 25 inches! Most places got 2ft or more of snow! They say it is an all time record for snow in December at PDX.
Most of that snow is gone now, but we got a nice little dusting of an inch or 2 this morning with the temp being right around 32-33.

I think it will be an interesting January!

Ice Ice Baby......

Well, yesterday morning it snowed a few inches, but most of it melted. It froze again overnight and is now pretty icy out. All the slush and moisture on the roads is ice. I got to work fine in the pickup (without using 4wd), but I don't think others will later in the morning.
