Ice Ice Baby......

Well, yesterday morning it snowed a few inches, but most of it melted. It froze again overnight and is now pretty icy out. All the slush and moisture on the roads is ice. I got to work fine in the pickup (without using 4wd), but I don't think others will later in the morning.

No clear winner..

Well, nobody really won that one. Nobody I know of accurately predicted the last 24 hours.
The meteorologists were closer, but they were wrong.

By noon today it will have been well above freezing for 24 hours.

At around noon yesterday the temp jumped from just below freezing to near 40 degrees and it hasn't cooled since then. I dont think it will until possibly tomorrow or Saturday. It will cool when the moisture goes away as usual. We may get a transition event sometime in the next 3-4 days, but we will soon after be back in the usual pattern.... rain.

Deep freeze

We are well into this deep freeze now. We hit 25 for the high yesterday and it is now around 22 with clear skies and the east wind slowing a bit. The roads are pretty good since it is so dry but there are large chunks of ice frozen to the road in places.

Tomorrow...
The KPTV mets are predicting we get up to 35 tomorrow with lots of precipitation turning to rain at some point. The bloggers are predicting the cold front winning out and all the precip remaining snow. I think I am leaning the way of the bloggers since I think this cold air has really set its roots in the area. It would take a strong tropicial system to root it out very fast and the approaching system is coming from the north. I dont know jack about weather but this just seems to make sense to me.

So, will it be the Pro's at KPTV with their rain forcast for tomorrow, or will it be the Bloggers and the strong cold air winning the battle?

LETS GET IT ON!

20.8 degrees!

Well, they were saying this could be a 10 year storm, now it looks like it could be a 20-30 year storm. The forecast shows possibly 10 days or so below freezing all day and night!

We woke up early yesterday morning (Sunday) with temps in the low 30's. They plummeted all day from there and are still dropping this morning where it is currently 20.8 degrees!

The east wind picked up about the time the snow arrived so although we probably got 2-3 inches of snow the wind blew most of it away. The only place it really accumulated was on the grass and in wind sheltered area. The roads in Sweetbriar are patchy packed snow and ice, but once you get out on the main roads it is pretty clear from the wind.

Today will no doubt be another cold day, and the forcast is for more snow Tuesday and Wednesday. Hopefully the east wind dies and some of that snow stacks up a bit. I was rather dissapointed that I didnt get to use 4wd this morning!

Brrrrrr!!!

Ok, so this should be interesting...
They are predicting the high Sunday to be around freezing and the low down to 15f! I think it has been many years since it has been this cold.
Snow is predicted in the low hills Friday night or Saturday but not down to the valley floor. Sunday they say it could get down to sea level and then the highs through next Wednesday are in the MID 20's!!!!
Unfortunatly our pellet stove is down for the count and we will be running on only the gas furnace. I hope it holds up!

First freeze

Well, we had our first freeze of the winter this weekend. It got down to 30 Friday night and the frost hung around until mid morning. It hasn't froze since then but they predict a bad cold snap in 5-7 days.
We went and got the X-mas tree Saturday and it was a very nice sunny day reaching almost 60.

Thunder storms

After the scorcher this weekend it has been in the mid 80's all week. We finally did get some rain Sunday night from the thunder storms, and then again this morning. I think it had been about 3 weeks since we had seen any rain.

Scorched

Well, we are sitting here at 7:30 on Saturday and its 95 degrees! It breached 100 for a little bit today, and yesterday was in the 90's as well. Tomorrow is supposed to be 95 as well. Yeah.

Thursday, June 26, 2008

Another heat up

It has been rather nice again this week with temps in the mid 70's and overnight lows in the low 50's. Today is supposed to be the last day like this with it getting up to 97 by Saturday! They are saying Friday through Sunday in the 90's... ouch. I hope they are wrong!

Warm and dry

Well, it hasn't rained in a long time so its getting pretty dry. The temp went up into the mid 80's today to make it the warmest day in awhile. It looks like its going to stay dry also. I'm hoping its not too long because my rain barrel is very close to being empty, but it is that time of year.

Pleasant!

It was a very nice weekend. Sunday it took until around noon for the cloud cover to burn off, but after that there wasn't a cloud to be seen, and it was very nice.

It looks like this week will start off good and gradually cool off until possible rain toward the end of the week. I hope it does rain, but I would like to see those temps stay above 70!

Nice weather!

I think the next few days will be the nicest weather of the year.
Yesterday was a high of 67 and a low of 47. Nice and sunny in the afternoon.
Today is supposed to be 74 and 47. Perfect!
This is expected to continue until the middle of next week.

Stuck in a pattern

Its been awhile since I posted because we have been stuck in a pattern. The weather the last few weeks has been cool and wet. That pretty much sums it up. Our high for the month is 70.

Today has been a bit of a change. A mild south wind picked up late yesterday and was stronger this morning. It was about 16mph when I came to work, 45 degrees and trying to sprinkle.
This seems to be a signal of the end of the pattern we have been stuck in since around the third week of May.
They are predicting 80's by the end of the week!

Many wet days...

The last several days have been very similar. It has been wet for over a week now, and the daytime highs have been in the 60's with overnight lows in the upper 40's and lower 50's.
The nice thing is, I haven't had to water the new sod since sometime last week!

Big swing

Big swing in the weather the last two days.
Yesterday it started raining around sun-up, and the high was only in the mid 60's. This morning it was trying to sprinkle and was in the upper 40's! It is only supposed to reach the upper 50's today.

96 degrees in May!

Well, its official... we hit 96 in May.
Here is the weekend wrap up, Friday hit 91 with a low of 58, Saturday hit 96/58, and Sunday was 88/55.
How did it feel? Well, Friday was not as miserable because we had a nice breeze most of the day. Saturday was scorching though because no wind, and Sunday felt hotter than Friday even though it was cooler.

I am looking forward to it getting back to normal this week!

Friday, May 16, 2008

The heat is on!

Yep, it was hot. Yesterday got up to 89 and had a low of 54. The wind picked up in the evening to about 15mph with gusts up to 30.
I was out preparing the yard for sod by unloading a truckload of dirt, and I was sweating my ass off! haven't done that in awhile!

Here we go!

Ok, after many days of very similar temps (Dry with high of 60 and low of 40), yesterday changed a little. The temps were about the same with a high of 57, and a low of 47, but it rained most of the day. The weard thing was that the low was in the early afternoon, and the high was just before midnight.
Today is obviously going to be different. It was still pretty wet on my way to work, but the cloud layer was very thin and broken, and it was 56 degrees!
I think it will be cloudy if not foggy in the morning with all this humidity, but when that all burns up the sun will come out this afternoon and we will start our HEAT WAVE!

Monday, May 12, 2008

Same ole..

Still not many changes. Last night got down to the low 40's again, and I think there were some sprinkles sometime after midnight.
Sunday got up to 60 and down to 42, and Saturday was 62/43 with one short rainstorm that rolled through.

The big record warm up is coming later this week. The news station are predicting one and possibly two days of over 90! Last May we hit 94 on the 30th and it was the only day over 90 until July 4th. Last June the high was 88.

Friday, May 9, 2008

The Coat is back!

OBTW, my Coat went back on this morning. It got down to 42 last night!
I look forward to putting it back in the closet early next week.

90's?

Well, its been pretty much the same all week. Quite chilly in fact, with temps in the mid to upper 50's.
They say some sun today, then more Saturday. Sunday a short storm arrives, and then a big warm up. They say 90's by next Thursday! That will be miserable considering how cold it is. 80's will feel scorching at this point!

Another quick note: Most Mt. Hood campgrounds are still under snow when they are usually thinking about opening in a week or two. They say some may not open until July this year!

High of 65...

It did break 60 yesterday. The sun poked out in the late afternoon to warm it up a bit. Today looks to be the same as yesterday. Mid 60's with a chance of a shower.
It has been dry for a week now!

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

No Coat!

After a very nice weekend with a high of 76 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday, today is much cooler. It was about 50 this morning on my way to work though, so I went without a coat for the first time in quite awhile!
Unless the cloud cover breaks, it may not make 60 today. I am actually hoping it rains a bit since it has been dry for a few days now.

Friday, May 2, 2008

Finally..

Finally a nice dry day that allowed me to get a lot of yard work done!
It ended up getting to 62/40 and was very nice.
I couldn't help but notice there was a slight breeze this morning, and it was coming from the opposite way (NE). Must be some changes coming.

More of the same

Yesterday was 40/60 with lots of thunderstorms and sunbreaks. A bit more hail as well.

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Poor plants..

Yesterday afternoon we took quite a beating. There were at least 2 heavy hail storms that must have lasted more than 10 minutes each. I was just starring out the window watching the garden take a beating.
Anyway, yesterday was 52/39 with about a half inch of rain and a few wind gusts when a thunderstorm would blow by.
This morning it was very wet/rainy with some light south wind and around 40 degrees.

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Nice weekend!

We had a very nice weekend!
Saturday was nice and sunny, with a high of 71 and a low of 39. The wind did come up for awhile, but was gone by late afternoon.
Sunday was about the same with a high of 70.9 and a low of 45. I went ahead and put the tomatoes, bell peppers and artichokes in the ground on Sunday.

The rain returned Monday, but it was still quite warm. It was dry on my way to work, but by the time the sun came up it was wet. Temp was 63/44. Very mild.

Today was damp on the way to work, but very mild (46.5).

Clearing up..

This morning it was 41 at 3:30am. The sky had started to clear up just before sunset yesterday, and it was a thin patchy cloud layer this morning.

Looks like it got up to 51 yesterday and down to 39 last night. Not really any wind to speak of at our house, but there were a few 12mph gusts during the day. They say we should see the sun today! I cant wait!

Way below average!

I was just looking at this week 2008 vs 2007 and we are way below average.
2007 high 76 low 43 average 56
2008 high 52 low 34 average 41

I think next week will be a lot closer to last year.

Showers, but warmer.

Some sprinkles on my way to work. Temp was about 42 at 3:30am... seems to be getting a little warmer finally. Forecast is 40/52 with showers.

The garden is still bare, and I have several plants inside the house (to keep them warm) that I am starting to consider planting. I think I should be able to get at least the tomatoes and bell peppers planted within the next week or so. The are pressed against the window in the garage trying to get some sun! I have about 6 pumpkin seeds in the house that are planted in peat pots. They have been growing about an inch a day and I am just hoping it gets warm enough outside before the overrun the pots.

First post!

The goals of the Troutdale Weather Journal are:
  • Keep a historical archive of Troutdale weather
  • Create an entry as often as possible - hopefully daily, or at least 4 times a week
  • Have at least the daily hi/low temp, and a mention of conditions
Simple enough right? I guess I will find out.

The reason I am doing this is because I often wonder "what was it like this day/month last year". I can find data about these things online but not for "Troutdale".
