Ice Ice Baby......

Well, yesterday morning it snowed a few inches, but most of it melted. It froze again overnight and is now pretty icy out. All the slush and moisture on the roads is ice. I got to work fine in the pickup (without using 4wd), but I don't think others will later in the morning.

No clear winner..

Well, nobody really won that one. Nobody I know of accurately predicted the last 24 hours.
The meteorologists were closer, but they were wrong.

By noon today it will have been well above freezing for 24 hours.

At around noon yesterday the temp jumped from just below freezing to near 40 degrees and it hasn't cooled since then. I dont think it will until possibly tomorrow or Saturday. It will cool when the moisture goes away as usual. We may get a transition event sometime in the next 3-4 days, but we will soon after be back in the usual pattern.... rain.

Deep freeze

We are well into this deep freeze now. We hit 25 for the high yesterday and it is now around 22 with clear skies and the east wind slowing a bit. The roads are pretty good since it is so dry but there are large chunks of ice frozen to the road in places.

Tomorrow...
The KPTV mets are predicting we get up to 35 tomorrow with lots of precipitation turning to rain at some point. The bloggers are predicting the cold front winning out and all the precip remaining snow. I think I am leaning the way of the bloggers since I think this cold air has really set its roots in the area. It would take a strong tropicial system to root it out very fast and the approaching system is coming from the north. I dont know jack about weather but this just seems to make sense to me.

So, will it be the Pro's at KPTV with their rain forcast for tomorrow, or will it be the Bloggers and the strong cold air winning the battle?

LETS GET IT ON!

20.8 degrees!

Well, they were saying this could be a 10 year storm, now it looks like it could be a 20-30 year storm. The forecast shows possibly 10 days or so below freezing all day and night!

We woke up early yesterday morning (Sunday) with temps in the low 30's. They plummeted all day from there and are still dropping this morning where it is currently 20.8 degrees!

The east wind picked up about the time the snow arrived so although we probably got 2-3 inches of snow the wind blew most of it away. The only place it really accumulated was on the grass and in wind sheltered area. The roads in Sweetbriar are patchy packed snow and ice, but once you get out on the main roads it is pretty clear from the wind.

Today will no doubt be another cold day, and the forcast is for more snow Tuesday and Wednesday. Hopefully the east wind dies and some of that snow stacks up a bit. I was rather dissapointed that I didnt get to use 4wd this morning!

Brrrrrr!!!

Ok, so this should be interesting...
They are predicting the high Sunday to be around freezing and the low down to 15f! I think it has been many years since it has been this cold.
Snow is predicted in the low hills Friday night or Saturday but not down to the valley floor. Sunday they say it could get down to sea level and then the highs through next Wednesday are in the MID 20's!!!!
Unfortunatly our pellet stove is down for the count and we will be running on only the gas furnace. I hope it holds up!

First freeze

Well, we had our first freeze of the winter this weekend. It got down to 30 Friday night and the frost hung around until mid morning. It hasn't froze since then but they predict a bad cold snap in 5-7 days.
We went and got the X-mas tree Saturday and it was a very nice sunny day reaching almost 60.
